In 1841, William and Martha (Baker, both 40) were at Chapel Lane, Hindley with Richard (13), Thomas (12), Mary (10), William (8), Sarah (6), John (4) and Elizabeth (2).
In 1851, William (a Bread Baker) and Martha (51 & 50) were at Chapel Lane, Hindley with Thomas (22), Mary (20), Sarah A (16), John (14) and Elizabeth (12).
William Mather of 13 Scarisbrich Street, Wigan left effects under £1500, a great sum. His estate was administered by his oldest son Richard Mather of Shelmerdine Street, Wigan, Boot and Shoe Maker.
William and Martha were married in a religious ceremony on October 3rd, 1825 in Wigan.6 They had four sons and four daughters, named Richard, Thomas, William, John, Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth and Jane. There are no more children.
