Mary Mather

Mary was born in 1830 in Turton and her christening took place on September 18th, 1831 at Christ Church, Walmsley.¹²

Mary's father was Holt Mather and her mother was Alice Vickers. Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Betty Holt. She had a brother and six sisters, named Thomas, Rosannah, Lavinia, Ellen, Jane, Alice and Maria. She was the second oldest of the eight children.

  In 1852, Mary married Thomas in Staffordshire.
  
  In 1861, Thomas Vickers and Mary (31 & 30) were at the Blue Bell Beer House, Hindley with John (9), Mary (6) and Ellis (3). With them were lodgers Alice Mather (53, housekeeper, his mother); and sisters Rose H (28), Ellen (23), and Alice (17).
