Alice's father was John Mather and her mother was Ann (Nancy) Greenwood. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Charles, Thomas, James, Nancy, Ellen, Ellen, Ellen and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 48 in September 1834 in Little Bolton.  She was buried on September 23rd, 1834 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
