Mary was born in 1804 in Bolton and her baptism took place on September 23rd, 1804 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Mary's father was John Mather and her mother was Ann (Nancy) Greenwood. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Charles, Thomas, James, Alice, Nancy, Ellen, Ellen and Ellen.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
