Nancy was born in 1789 in Bolton and her baptism took place on October 9th, 1789 at Turton Chapel.1  Nancy's father was John Mather and her mother was Ann (Nancy) Greenwood. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Charles, Thomas, James, Alice, Ellen, Ellen, Ellen and Mary.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
