Banks, known as James, was born in 1832 in Turton.1  James' father was James Horrocks and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Banks.  His maternal grandparents were James Banks and Jane Crouchley. He had a brother named Edwin.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 55 in 1887 in Ardwick.2
