In 1860, James was born in Egerton (on baptism) or Darwen (on census), followed by Edward in Little Hulton in 1862. The family then settled in Little Bolton.  The baptism of James is the only mather baptism at Egerton Methodist Church (near to but not Walmsley Unitarian).

1762 - 1831 Robert Mather 69 69 Robert and Peggy were from Tokeholes.

In July 1761, James Mather and Esther Mason married at St Peter's, Bolton.

In 1862, Robert was baptised whjile they lived at Walmesly. Then there are no baptisms with both parents named.

There are four more births from 1780 (after an 18 year gap), with abode as Withnell, so this could be another couple with a missing marriage record.

In 1841, Charlotte Mather was 17 and living in Halliwell

In 1851, Charlotte was missing.  She may have been married to Jeremiah Gregory from Heaton.  Charlotte Gregory was 29 and a weaver from Halliwell, and Charlotte was the daughter of Charles Hornby, so perhaps only living with the Mather family as a maid in 1841.

In 1859, It was another Charlotte (born 1821, Wigan) that married William Platt at Bolton All Saints and later lived in L.B.
1827 Margaret Mather Margaret married the boy next door; James Crompton, son of John in 1847.

In Sept 1850, Thomas son of Richard died, aged 18, and is buried at Deane. There are no marriages that match, so perhaps it was a shot-gun-wedding that went wrong!
1836 - 1877 Miles Mather 41 41 In 1851, Miles was born Withnell, but the family had moved to Colliers Row, Westhoughton and became a mining family.  His mother was French.

Miles (who could sign his name) married Ann Warburton in 1858. They appear to have adopted a son James Kay, probably Ann nephew.

In 1861, Miles Mather was a Coal Miner at Hall Lane, Walton, Lancashire

1 Jan 1885, James Kay (24) of Walmsley, son of Miles Mather a Crofter married Elizabeth Wittenshaw (24) at St Peter, Halliwell.  Thomas Mather (Miles's brother) was a witness.

Richard and Ann (who was French) started their married life at Withnell, where Richard was born.  They moved to Westhoughton about 1836, before Sarah was born.

In 1841, Richard (an Ag. Labourer) and Ann (both 40) were at New Collier Row, Halliwell.  Charlotte, Margaret and Betty (17,14,11) were cotton doublers and there was also children Thomas, Robert, Miles and Sarah.

In 1881, Richard (84), now a gardners labourer and widowed, is still with his single daughter Betsy (50, born Withnell) at Halliwell. Richard has his place of birth as Tunstall, Staffordshire (which should be his grandaughter).
