Alice's father was George Henry Washington Mathers and her mother was Jane Lee.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mathers and Mary Ann Harding(?). She had eight brothers and a sister, named Charles, James, George, Herbert, George, John, Joseph, Albert and Jane.  She was the fifth oldest of the ten children.
