Bernard was born in June 1861 in Withnell and his baptism took place there on April 6th, 1862.1  Bernard's father was Robert Mather Taylor and his mother was Mary Ann Kay.  His paternal grandparents were John Taylor and Mary Mather. He had six brothers named William, James, Joseph, David, Kay and Doctor.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
