Esther was born on February 7th, 1822 in Levenshulme and her baptism took place on April 21st, 1822 in Heaton Norris.1  Esther's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Margaret Robinson. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Joseph, Henry, William, Ann, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth and Margaret.  She was the eighth oldest of the ten children.
