William was born on August 9th, 1824 in Levenshulme and his baptism took place on October 24th, 1824 in Heaton Norris.1  William's father was Robert Mather and his mother was Margaret Robinson. He had three brothers and six sisters, named John, Joseph, Henry, Ann, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth, Esther and Margaret.  He was the nineth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 18 in January 1843 in Heaton Norris.  His burial was on January 15th, 1843 in Heaton Norris.2
