Harry was born in December 1874 in Bury.1  Harry's father was James Mather and his mother was Rachel Nuttall.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Sarah Butterworth. He had five sisters named Sarah, Mary, Martha, Betsy and Rachel.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.
