Robert was born on October 7th, 1845 in Walmersley and his baptism took place on January 11th, 1846 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1 2  Robert's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Mary Scowcroft.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Evans. He had three sisters named Frances, Esther and Alice. He had an adopted brother named Thomas. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named William, Ann, Mary, Sarah and Sarah.  He died at the age of 2 in December 1847 in Bury.  He was buried on December 23rd, 1847 at St. John (Bury).3
