Sarah's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Hannah Sharples.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Evans. She had a brother and three sisters, named William, Ann, Mary and Sarah.  She was the second youngest of the five children. She had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Frances, Esther and Alice.  She died at the age of 6 in 1841.
