General Notes
William, son of Richard from Haslingden. Probably not the son of Richard and Hannah Knowles from Tottington, North Bury, as 6 miles South of Haslingden, and they were probably too old. Richard Mather and Hannah Sharples from Pigslee is a better match.
In 1841, William (12) and his siblings were with his father Richard (30) a fuller and grandparents James and Mary (both 65) at Walmersley. at Pigslee Bridge.
29 Dec 1852, William (22) son of Richard Mather married Margaret Gerrard (22), daughter of Thomas Gerrard at St John The Evangelist, Farnworth & Kearsley Parish Church.
In 1871, William and Margaret (both 41) were in Farnworth with Andrew (15), Hannah (8), Jane (3) and Esther (3 mo)
In 1881, William Mather (57) was a Canal Boatman living at Farnworth with Margaret (57), Hannah (18) and Jane (13).
In 1891 William Mather (61, Wid) was a colliery banksman living with his son-in-law James Howcroft. Jane had left home.
In 1896, William died at Farnworth Hospital, aged 67.
