Robert was born on February 28th, 1807 in Walmersley and his baptism took place on March 22nd, 1807 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1 2  Robert's father was James Mather and his mother was Mary Evans.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Betty (Elizabeth) Ripson. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Richard, James, Samuel, Sarah and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 60 on February 26th, 1868 in Bury.  He was buried on February 29th, 1868 in Bury.3
