Sarah
(Reuben)
Mather
It appeard Sarah's baptism was recorded as "Reuben" in error. Reuben is an unusual name, yet two Reuben baptisms are recorded on the same day at the same chapel. Then, there is no evidance of any Reuben on the census, marriage or death, although clearly there is a Sarah without a baptism. However, However, Reuben later became a name used by the family. Where they twins?

39
When they married in 1826, James and Catharine Rawsthorn were both Spinners in Deane. However, the children are baptised with abode Great Bolton.
After 1837, the births for James and Lavinia show the mother's maiden name as ROSTRON (not Rawsthorn).
In 1841, the family were at Corronation Street, Bolton.

1803 - 1854
James
Mather
51
51
Who is James Mather who married Catherine? This is probably the James, illegitimate son of Jane Mather born 1803 in Little Lever. In 1841, James's mother Jane was living at Old Acres (aged 70). His marriage witness Joshua Kirkman was a neighbour.
It's quite possible the James Mather that married Catherine is a brother or cousin of Holt Mather. Both werre spinners and both had daughters named Lavinia.
26 Nov 1826, James Mather married Catherine Rawsthorn. His witness was Joshua Kirkman (1790-1846) from Lever.
In 1841, James (a spinner) and Catherine (both 35) were living at Corronation Street, West Bolton. With them were Susannah (15), Jane (14), Peggy (13), Henry (8), James (4), Laviniah (1) and Margaret Rosthorn (60, possibly Catherine's aunt)
1819
Margaret
(Peggy)
Mather
For some reason, only the mother (Sarah) is recorded on the baptism. It could be that this is another Sarah Mather and was unmarried, and possibly married Joshua Webster, a cabinet maker on 22 Aug 1819, just 2 weeks before Peggy was born, but then why use the maiden name?
7 Oct 1839, Margaret Mather, daughter of Isaac Mather, landlord, married William Garside, Cali Printer, son of Richard Garside, weaver, both from Edgworth, full age.
In 1861 William and Margaret (42 & 41) were at Doffer Fold, Radcliffe with Fanny (20), Sarah Ann (16), James (12), Elizabeth (10), John (7), William (5), Mary Ann (4) and Ellen (9mo). Also there were Margaret's brother Joseph and his wife and her father Isaac (65).

Isaac born 1796 was a bastard son of Mary Mather of Little Bolton. No farther is given, although Mary Mather, if the same person, married Henry Warburton by licence in April 1801.
He may have had a brother Jacob. Also a posible brother of Alice Mather, wife of Samuel (both from Turton).
A Weaver in 1816 when married, and 1817 - >1822
In 1841, Isaac Mather (45) was a Beer Seller with his second wife Jane (50) at the Old White Horse, Wallbach, Edgworth. His children Joseph, Alice, Peter, Jacob, Jane, and Sarah were with him. Kitty

15
15
Kitty, daughter of James & Mary Mather of Edgworth, died aged 15 years.
1824 - 1824
Kitty
Mather
3m
3m
Kitty, daughter of Mary Mather (no father named) of Edgworth, died Dec 1826, 3 months old. Mary already had a Kitty, and she would have been over 60 when this Kitty was born, so perhaps this is another Mary Mather.
1773 - >1851
James
Mather
78
78
James was married to Mary from Scotland in 1841 and 1851.
James may be the son of Thomas from D.L. James was left nothing in his father Thomas' will of 1823. Perhaps because he had moved away from the family. However, birth is 2 years out, but closest match.
James and Mary, Crofter (when married) or Ag Labourer (1841 census) at Mount Pleasant, Edgworth in 1841.
1778 - 1855
John

Jane was the daughter of Thomas and Betty, baptised at St Peter, Bolton in 1769. Jane's father left "2 cottages in Darcy Lever, in possession of himself and Joseph Warburton, to daughter Jane Fohold (who has three children)". "Fohold" appears to be an error.
In 1831, Jane was NOT at Old Acres. However in 1805 (poor list) Richard Mather was an occupier (one of many) at Old Acres. In the 1796 valuation, Richard Mather was occupier at 46 Old Acres, Bradshaw Gate, West Side.
In 1841, Jane (70), with her assumed niece or granddaughter Alice (15), living at Old Acres, E Bolton.
