Sarah was born in 1854 in Edgworth.1  Sarah's father was John Nelson and her mother was Ann Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Sarah Jackson. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, James, Francis, Sarah and Mary.  She was the fifth oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 4 in 1858 in Edgworth.1
