Sarah's father was William Mather (Bibby) and her mother was Mary Ann Young.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Harriet Bibby. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named John, William, Emma, Harriet, Ada, Florence, Alice, Nellie and Bertha.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 3 in 1886 in Bolton.²
