William was born in December 1889 in Bolton.1  William's father was William Mather (Bibby) and his mother was Mary Ann Young.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Harriet Bibby. He had a brother and eight sisters, named John, Emma, Harriet, Sarah, Ada, Florence, Alice, Nellie and Bertha.  He was the seventh oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 1 in March 1891 in Bolton.2
