Bertha was born in September 1902 in Bolton.1  Bertha's father was William Mather (Bibby) and her mother was Mary Ann Young.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Harriet Bibby. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named John, William, Emma, Harriet, Sarah, Ada, Florence, Alice and Nellie.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
