Thomas' father was James Mather and his mother was Catharine Chandler.  His paternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and <Unknown>. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Ralph, James, John, John, William, Elizabeth and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.  He died at 6 months old in December 1847 in Manchester.  He was buried on December 3rd, 1847 at St. James (Ashworth).²
