Elizabeth was born in 1842 in Rochdale and her baptism took place on April 22nd, 1842 at St. Chad (Rochdale).1 2  Elizabeth's father was James Mather and her mother was Catharine Chandler.  Her paternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and <Unknown>. She had six brothers and a sister, named Ralph, James, John, Thomas, John, William and Mary.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 1 in February 1843 in Heywood.  She was buried on February 22nd, 1843 at St. James (Ashworth).3
