Mary was born in January 1808 in Darcy Lever and her baptism took place on January 17th, 1808 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Mary's father was <unknown> and her mother was Jane Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Betty Thornley. She had a brother named James.  She was the younger of the two children.
