Rhoda was born in 1868 in Darwen.1  Rhoda's father was James Cocker and her mother was Jane Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were (Ann) Mather and Sarah Jackson. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Reuben, Edmund, Simon, Mary, Sarah, Alice, Sophia, Susannah and Cordelia.  She was the third youngest of the ten children.
