Did Jane Mather (widowed of Lostock, dau of Thomas Alker) marry Isaac Dodd on 26 Nov 1849?
1822 - 1897 Joseph Mather 75 75 Still with parents in 1841 (Calico Printer Apprentice) and 1851.

Joseph (a quarryman) married Sarah Lee in 1855. His father Isaac was a farmer (28 acres in 1851).

In 1849, Peter and Jacob (brothers) were listed on the criminal register of larceny from the person.

In 1851, Peter and Jacob, both 25, were single and with the family in Edgworth.

Peter may have married Mary.  Peter, born Edgworth and family are at Elton in 1871 with sons Reuben and Isaac.
1826 Jacob Mather In 1841, Peter was 14 and Jacob 13 (so not twins) at the White Horse, Edgworth with their father Isaac and step-mother Sarah.

In 1849, Peter and Jacob (brothers) were listed on the criminal register of larceny from the person.

In 1851, Jacob and Peter were 25, quarryman at Edgworth, still with their parents.

After 1851, Jacob seems to have vapourised.  He may have died in Livepool in 1864 (no age indexed)
1832 Sarah (Reuben) Mather It appeard Sarah's baptism was recorded as "Reuben" in error.  Reuben is an unusual name, yet two Reuben baptisms are recorded on the same day at the same chapel.  Then, there is no evidance of any Reuben on the census, marriage or death, although clearly there is a Sarah without  a baptism. However, However, Reuben later became a name used by the family.  Where they twins?

In 1841, Sarah was aged 8 at the old White Horse, Edgworth with Isaac, Jane and family.

In 1851, Sarah was 15 (rounded), still with parents and family at Edgworth
1829 Jane Mather Aged 12 in 1841, living with parents Isaac and Jane.

Charles Mather's first marriage (indexed 4 times, but only one has the correct father), married Sarah Kirkham at Deane in 1855.

In 1861 Sarah's sister Alice Kirkham was living with Charles and Sarah.

1767 - >1851 Mary Barber 84 84 James (Ag Labourer) and Mary were at Mount Pleasant, Edgworth in 1841.  There were both alive (80 & 83) at Brandwood, Edgworth in 1851. 1797 - 1798 John Mather 1 1 1798 - 1799 Thomas Mather 1 1 1835 - 1870 John Mather 35 35
In 1861, John married Lydia Nightingale at Bolton, St James, Breightmet.

Daughter Ellen Mather b.1869 was not registered.
1803 - 1842 Catherine Rawsthorn or ROSTRON 39 39 When they married in 1826, James and Catharine Rawsthorn were both Spinners in Deane.  However, the children are baptised with abode Great Bolton.

After 1837, the births for James and Lavinia show the mother's maiden name as ROSTRON (not Rawsthorn).

In 1841, the family were at Corronation Street, Bolton.
Margret Rosethorn (60), probably Catherin's mother (TBC) was with them.
1834 - 1909 Elizabeth Mather 75 75 May have died in 1899 (if not married), aged 65.

By 1861, Elizabeth had left home.
1827 - 1869 Jane Mather 42 42 31 May 1846, Jane Mather, a minor, daughter of James Mather a spinner, married Abraham Fitton, son of Robert, also a spinner 1829 - 1832 Lavinia Mather 2 2 Recorded as Laviness but probably should be Lavinia 1828 Peggy Mather In 1841, Peggy was 13 with her parents at Corronation Street, Bolton.  There was another Peggy aged 13 this year, daughter of Robert and Ann Mather from Turton.  This other Peggy married James Cooper in 1852. 1833 Henry Mather In 1841, Henry is with his parents, aged 8 at Corronation Street.

Henry appears to have been adopted by Betty Harner, who lists Henry as her son (age 15).
1840 - 1842 Lavinia Mather 2 2 WARNING: Another Lavinia, daughter of Jonathan and Charlotte Mather of Deansgate, Manchester was also born 1839 and died 1842, aged 2.

Listed as Male on Census, but recorded as female at death
1826 Susannah Mather In 1841, Susannah (15) and with parents at Corronation Street, Bolton.

In 1847, another Susannah Mather, daughtr of Thomas married Jeremiah Barlow.

Susannah had left home (married ? Fletcher) by 1851 and had a son Joshua (aged 2).  James (14), her brother was living with them, but the husband was absent.
1803 - 1854 James Mather 51 51 Who is James Mather who married Catherine?  This is probably the James, illegitimate son of Jane Mather born 1803 in Little Lever.  In 1841, James's mother Jane was living at Old Acres (aged 70).  His marriage witness Joshua Kirkman was a neighbour.

It's quite possible the James Mather that married Catherine is a brother or cousin of Holt Mather.  Both werre spinners and both had daughters named Lavinia.

26 Nov 1826, James Mather married Catherine Rawsthorn.  His witness was Joshua Kirkman (1790-1846) from Lever.

In 1841, James (a spinner) and Catherine (both 35) were living at Corronation Street, West Bolton.  With them were Susannah (15), Jane (14), Peggy (13), Henry (8), James (4), Laviniah (1) and Margaret Rosthorn (60, possibly Catherine's aunt)
1819 Margaret (Peggy) Mather For some reason, only the mother (Sarah) is recorded on the baptism.  It could be that this is another Sarah Mather and was unmarried, and possibly married Joshua Webster, a cabinet maker on 22 Aug 1819, just 2 weeks before Peggy was born, but then why use the maiden name?

7 Oct 1839, Margaret Mather, daughter of Isaac Mather, landlord, married William Garside, Cali Printer, son of Richard Garside, weaver, both from Edgworth, full age.

In 1861 William and Margaret (42 & 41) were at Doffer Fold, Radcliffe with Fanny (20), Sarah Ann (16), James (12), Elizabeth (10), John (7), William (5), Mary Ann (4) and Ellen (9mo).  Also there were Margaret's brother Joseph and his wife and her father Isaac (65).
~1775 - <1823 Betty Mather 48 48 In 1823, Thomas left two cottages in Darcy Lever, in possession of Samuel Martin and Nathaniel Warburton, to the daughters of his late daughter Betty Hulme.

12 Sep 1824 Betty Mather, Spinster of Darcy Lever, had a daughter Alice baptised, but this is probably another, possibly a  niece.
1784 - 1813 Richard Mather 29 29 In his fathers of 1823 will it records that late son Richard had children. ~1775 James Hulme 5 Feb 1797, James Hulme married Betty Mather at Prestwich St Mary. ~1780 Henry Warburton When father-in-law Thomas Mather died in 1823: "1 cottage in Little Bolton, in the occupation of Barnabas Kitchen, to son in law, Henry Warburton" 1776 Mary (Mercy) Mather Mary Mather of Little Bolton was the mother of Isaac, baptised 8 Jun 1800 at Bradshaw.  No father is named.

Mary wasn't mentioned directly in her fathers will in 1823.  However, "one cottage in Little Bolton, in the occupation of Barnabas Kitchen, was left to son in law, Henry Warburton, her husband.  Perhaps she was deceased.
1787 - 1787 Peter Mather 2m 2m Born Breightmet.
Peter son of Thomas & Betty
1821 William Crawshaw Father "Richard Crowshaw" (or Crawshaw)

In 1851, William and Alice (30 & 26) were at Bradshaw Chapel.  Richard was a Block Printer.  They had two sons Richard and Robert (5 & 2), and Alice's young sister Jane (22) and nephew Rueben (1).

In 1861, William and Alice (40 & 36) were with Richard (7) only.

The family moved to Nuttall, Tottington Lower End where in 1881 there was William (60) with Peter, Sarah A and James (22,19, and 17), all born Nuttall (and registered at Holcombe, Bury.

In May 1866, William and Alice Crawshaw (42 & 41) travelled to Quebec with their daughters Emma and May (14 & 6)

In 1871, soon after Alice died, William (50) was with Elen West (44), his oldest son Richard (25) and 5 other children.
1798 - 1867 Isaac Mather 69 69 Isaac born 1796 was a bastard son of Mary Mather of Little Bolton.  No farther is given, although Mary Mather, if the same person, married Henry Warburton by licence in April 1801.

He may have had a brother Jacob.  Also a posible brother of Alice Mather, wife of Samuel (both from Turton).

A Weaver in 1816 when married, and 1817 - >1822

In 1841, Isaac Mather (45) was a Beer Seller with his second wife Jane (50) at the Old White Horse, Wallbach, Edgworth.  His children Joseph, Alice, Peter, Jacob, Jane, and Sarah were with him.  The Old White Horse was taken over by Annis Bromily, an unmarried woman, aged 66 in 1851.  Isaac was a neighbour, but now farming 28 acres (with his family).

In 1844 Isaac was an Out Worker when daughter Alice of Edgworth Moor married William Crowshaw

In 1851, Isaac and Jane (52 & 53) are at Walleach, Edgworth farming 28 acres. With them are Joseph (27), Peter and Jacob (both 25), and Sarah (15).

1853: Isaac Mather continued to be a Beer Seller in Edgworth, and is listed in the 1853 and 1855 trade directories.

In 1861, Isaac (65) was a widower, lodging with his daughter Margaret Garside and son Joseph at Doffer Fold (next to Buckley Fold), Radcliffe.

In 1863, old Isaac may have married Mary Haddock at Bury RO (TBC).

Isaac died in 1867 and his death was registered at Bury.
1802 - 1817 Kitty Mather 15 15 Kitty, daughter of James & Mary Mather of Edgworth, died aged 15 years. 1824 - 1824 Kitty Mather 3m 3m Kitty, daughter of Mary Mather (no father named) of Edgworth, died Dec 1826, 3 months old.  Mary already had a Kitty, and she would have been over 60 when this Kitty was born, so perhaps this is another Mary Mather. 1773 - >1851 James Mather 78 78 James was married to Mary from Scotland in 1841 and 1851.

James may be the son of Thomas from D.L.  James was left nothing in his father Thomas' will of 1823.  Perhaps because he had moved away from the family.  However, birth is 2 years out, but closest match.

James and Mary, Crofter (when married) or Ag Labourer (1841 census) at Mount Pleasant, Edgworth in 1841.
1778 - 1855 John Mather 77 77 WARNING: There is also a John and Ann Greenwood of Great Bolton whjo married in 1781 and had over 10 children.

Probably brother of James of Darcy Lever (see Alice's baptism) and/or Samuel, a farmer of Radcliffe.

In 1823, Thomas, John's father, left one cottage in King Street, Great Bolton, to son John Mather.

In 1841, John was at Flash, Brieghtmet (60) a Farmer, living alone.

In 1851, John Mather (73, a retired farmer from Breightment) was living with his daughter Ellen (40) and son-in-law (shown as "Step-father") Joseph Phethean (48).

John's daughter Sarah was at Roscoe Fold, Breightmet, so John is probably related to Jeremy Mather.
1837 Lydia Nightingale In 1871, Lydia Mather was 34, Widow, a Toll House Keeper in Sowerby, Yorkshire and a widow.  She had 4 children; Elizabeth, James, Ann and Ellen (9,7,4 and 2), all born in Boilton.

Although a widow in 1871, she had "Betsy Mather" born in 1874.

In 1881, Lydia Mather (45) was at 6 Booth Street, Middleton with Elizabeth (19), James (17), Ann (14), Ellen (12) and Betsy (6).

In 1901, Sarah J Mather (single, 39) was a Grocer, Shop Keeper at 47 Punch Street, Bolton, following in her father's business. However, by 1911 the business had passed over to Mary Ann Mather, widow of William Mather, but how were they related?

In 1911, Sarah Jane Mather (49, born Bolton), a retied Grocery Business was with her sister Helen Mather (45) a Widow from Atherton with her 4 children.

In 1831, Jane was NOT at Old Acres.  However in 1805 (poor list) Richard Mather was an occupier (one of many) at Old Acres.  In the 1796 valuation, Richard Mather was  occupier at 46 Old Acres, Bradshaw Gate, West Side.

In 1841, Jane (70), with her assumed niece or granddaughter Alice (15), living at Old Acres, E Bolton.

Jane died in 1843, East Bolton, aged 74
