Neighbor: Both from Goose Cote Hill Lives with Relative of: Possibly father and son as living nearby in 1841 and first son was Edmund Lives with: In 1881, Hannah was a boarder with Elizabeth Holt (widow) and her two daughters.
Therefore, Elizabeth may be a granddaughter of George Holt and Betty Bentley, so daughter of James. Representative of: In 1806, Samuel (nephew) was one of the executors of Thomas Holt's Will Representative of: William was a marriage witness and also an Executor of his brother's Will
William was left Thomas's books. Relative of: David Marsh, son of Joan Schofield also has William T Glazenbrook in his tree 1759 - 1837 Betty Holt 78 78 There's one Betty Holt in Bolton or Turton born 1752, and many others in Lancashire (Middleton, Rochdale, Oldham, Burnley) which are probably too far away.  This Betty Holt (recorded as Hoult), daughter of Peter is born about 1758 in G.B. so a good match.

HOLT, widow, which may be her, was living on the Blackburn Road in 1811 and on the L.B. poor list.

Dont confuse with William Mather and Betty Beswich, married in Blackburn in 1797, and living in Pole Lane, Turton.

In 1837, Betty Mather of Turton died and was buried at Turton St Anne 10 May 1837, aged 81.

In 1841 another Betty Mather (82) nee Edge was living at Cannon Street.
1714 - <1808 John Mather 94 94 1723 - 1760 Jane Holt 37 37 In 1806, brother Thomas left some of his estate to the children of his late sister Jane Mather of Radcliffe, wife of John 1756 - 1760 Thomas Mather 4 4 1748 Samuel Mather 23-Jul-1763 (Ref.QSP/1878/24): Bolton le Moors. Certificate of eligibility of Samuel Mather, prisoner, to receive the county allowance (record held at Lancashire Archives). Is this the same Samuel Mather?  Well quite possibly, as no Samuel Mather was married in Bolton in the following years. 1759 Mary Mather Mary probably married Samuel Chadwick (1780, weaver) or Jno Boyd (1785), both at St. Peters 1751 - 1839 Margaret Mather 88 88 1730 Thomas Holt Thomas probably had a sister Jennet Holt (of Great Harwood) whom married William Megerison. ~1729 Ann Meadowcroft Ann Meadowcroft, Widowed was buried at St Peter, Bolton 17 Apr 1737.  This could be Ann's mother! 1755 Ann Holt 1765 - 1765 James Holt 1759 Thomas Holt 1751 Mally Holt "Mally" on records, but is probably an alternate spelling of Molly 1780 James Holt ~1759 Ann Isherwood 1785 Ann Holt Ann (unmarried) may have had a son James.  Ann Holt (66, mother) and Alice Holt (60, aunt) were with son James Car Holt in 1851. 1787 Mary Holt 1790 Jane Holt Jane of Thomas and Hannah, baptised at Bolton, so possibly another family 1786 Esther Holt 1752 Betty Holt Although the christening record only shows father as Thomas, another for sister Ann 2 years later also shows mother as Ann.  Both records show father as Thos Holte and birthplace of Harwood, Eng.

This Betty seems to old for spouse William, as she was 27 and he 17 when they married.  There must be another.
1723 Peter Holt ~1722 Mary Rogerson "Bettey" on Johns baptism, but should be Betty.  No mother given on any other baptism. 1752 John Holt It is assumed that John married Alice, largely because they had a son Peter Hole in 1783 at Turton 1761 Ellen Holt <1750 - 1750 Adam Hoult 1750 Margaret Holt 16 Feb 1790, James Holt, weaver, and Margaret Holt Spinster were married.  This may be another couple as they were quite old (about 40). 1747 Mary Holt 1744 Ann Holt Peter Holt married 5 months before Ann born, so just in time!

Shore's Turton was the Holt family home.

In 1789, Ann was a Shore's, Turton when Thomas was baptised.  Robert Holt and his wife Mary (formerly Walsh) also lived at Shores 1785-1792.  Also Edmund and wife Betty Holt in 1784-1793
1725 Elizabeth (Betty) Howarth Elizabeth's may have had a close relative Adam Howarth, a Yeoman of Lostock who died about 1827 and probate granted Jan 1828

In the 16 Cent, Lostock and Chew Moor was an arable area between Bolton and Westhoughton.
~1700 Richard Holt ~1700 Ellen 1751 - 1751 Ellen Hoult ~1680 - 1717 Abraham Mather 37 37 Abraham and Alice both left wills, the only ones indexed for Little Bolton (although others for Turton). ~1680 - 1718 Ales (Alice) Rothwell 38 38 Alice, recorded as "Ales" on Marriage Index.

After Abraham died, yoy may expect Ales (or Alice) to remarry.  However, there are no marriages, but a death of Alice Mather widow instead.  No age gived, but she was still young.
1706 Elizabeth Mather 1706 Mary Mather 1711 James Mather 1711 Richard Mather ~1759 Samuel Chadwick 1783 John Chadwick 1788 Esther Chadwick ~1751 James Foster 1745 Ann Mather 1753 - 1763 James Mather 10 10 ~1736 - 1799 Abraham Mather 63 63 WARNING: Parent are not confirmed.

Abraham was probably brother of John, Richard and Peter, all whom used the same Bank Street Unitarian chapel.

Abraham Mather, a Chapman (i.e. a peddler or hawker of goods such as wool and cotton) of Bolton and Elizabeth Saxton were married by licence.  Both were able to sign their names.

After Abraham's wife Elizabeth died in 1768 he was left with his young child Richard to look after, but Richard died soon after.  Abraham then re-married Alice Rothwell in 1770.  His signature on Alices marriage record matches that of his previous marriage.
1726 Richard Holt ~1700 Adam Howarth <unknown> 1782 John Holt 1795 George Holt 1784 Alice Holt ~1750 James Walsh 1790 John Walsh ~1744 John Pilkington 1789 Thomas Pilkington ~1805 John Mather ~1805 Ann Holt ~1755 James Holt 1776, James Holt and Susannah Howarth married.  In 1779 another James Holt and Ann Holt married and had son George the same year, also from Turton.

After they married thay may have lived in Bamford and had Molly (1777), James (1779), Robert (1781), Ann (1784) all baptised St Luke, Heywood. However there is also John (1785) after they were at Walmsley so this may be another.

22 Nov 1783 they lived at Rock Turton when Esther was baptised.  By 1778 they were at Goose Cote Hill when William was baptised.

1755 Susannah (Susan) Howarth When Howarth was baptised, the mother's maiden name was William.  Maybe her father was a William (or the two names were switched in error) 1786 William Holt Possibly William Holt, son of James and Ann b.1876, from Turton, or son of James and Jane  b.1792

In 1841, William a weaver, and Ellen (both 50) at Toppings, Turton with Betty (15) and James (10)
1783 Esther Holt 1785 - 1868 Ann Holt 82 82 WARNING: There is another Ann Holt from Walmsley, daughter of Robert and Mary

1790 - 1851 Alice Holt 61 61 In 1841, Alice (45) was a Reel Winder at Dunscar Lane with her Sister Ann (50), a baker. <male> Carr Unknown male, although assumed to be "Carr" from sons name 1807 James Carr Holt 6 Aug 1838, James Carr Holt, a crofter, married Alice Rothwell. He is shown to be illegitimate.

In 1841, James and Alice (30 & 20) were at Dunscar Lane with his mother Ann (50, a baker) and aunt Alice (45).

In 1851, James and wife Alice (44 & 33) were living with his mother Ann (66, house servant) and Aunt Alice (60) at Dunscar Lane, Turton.  He also had his first two children.

James marred Alice (from Blackburn) and in 1861 had Samuel (18), Mary Ann (14) and Sarah (7)
1785 Ellen Fitton 1786 William Holt Know as William and recorded as Howarth in error (as the Mother's Maiden Name was recorded as William, clearly an error as parents ware James and Susan from Goosecote Hill. It also confirms the mother was Susan Howarth.

There was another William Holt, son of James and Ann born 1876, also from Turton.
1805 Betty Greenhalgh 1 Jan 1823, John Holt married Betty Greenhalgh at St. Mary's Bury.

In 1838, the birth of Betty shows the MMN as Greenhalgh.

In 1851, Betty Holt (49) was at the Black Horse, Bolton with Ellen (25), Holt Holt (21), Edward (14 ?), Betty (13) and Isaac Oppenshaw (39, Lodger)

1838 - 1889 Mary Holt 51 51 25 Sep 1859, Daniel Bromiley (22) a Cardroom Hand from Halliwell married Mary Holt, daughter of John Holt a Stonemason.  Thomas Whitehead (bro-in-law) and Esther Holt (sister) were witness. 1841 Esther Holt 25 Mar 1860, Esther Holt married Thomas Whitehead.  Her witnesses were her sister and husband Mary and Daniel Bromilow (should be Bromiley) 1831 - 1873 Robert Simeon 42 42 1837 - 1911 Daniel Bromiley 74 74 25 Sep 1859, Daniel Bromiley (22) a Cardroom Hand from Halliwell married Mary Holt 1841 Thomas Whitehead 1838 - 1902 Sarah Jane Chippendale 63 63 Only one son Peter who died aged 1 1831 James Holt 1826 Betty Holt 1809 - 1889 Edmund Holt 80 80 Edmund baptised son of Benjamin and Jane Holt.

There is only one possible marriage to a Mary in Bolton or Deane, and that is 6 Oct 1840 to Mary Reynolds at Bolton St Peter's.

In 1838 William was born (MMN confirmed as REYNOLDS)

In 1841, Edmund and Mary (both 30) had Mary and Margaret (both 5) and William (2) at Toppings Turton.

In 1844, Edmund and Mary had a son James that died an indant (birth and death registered at Turton).  Mary also died at Turton Sep 1844, aged 40.

2 Sep 1849, Edmond Holt, son of Banjamin (who was also witness) married Catherine Yates.  He recorded himself as a bachelor, not widow.

In 1851, Edmund and Catherine (41 & 43) were at Diamond Row, Old Road, Sharples with sons James and William (14 & 13)
1804 - 1844 Mary Reynolds 40 40 1833 Mary Holt In 1841, Mary Holt (5) was at Toppings, Turton

Mary married Samuel Hardman

In 1861, Mary and Samuel Hardman were at 2 Blackburn Road, Sharples
1836 Margaret Holt In 1841, Margaret and Maryt (twins, both 5) were at Tommings with assumed parents Edmund and Mary Holt.

In 1851, Mary Holt (15) was still at Toppings with her grandmother Alice Smethhurst (60) and other females/reltives.
1838 William Holt In 1841, William Holt (2) was at Toppings, Turton.  There were 5 or more Williams born about this year, but this William born Q4 1838m  has MMN = Reynolds.

In 1851, William (13) was with parents Edmind and Catherine.
1808 Catherine Yates 2 Sep 1849 Catherine daughter of Richard Yates, a Loomer married Edmund Holt, son of Benjamin Holt 1844 - 1845 James Holt 10m 10m 1850 Elizabeth Holt 1764 - 1843 Edmund Holt 79 79 8 Nov 1744 Edmond Holt a weaver married Ellen Hamer and Bury.  (Otherwise Edmond Holt a Glazier married Ellin Lord  7 Oct 1783 at Bolton, over a year after Mary was baptised).

In 1841, Edmund Holt (75, not 15) was a Clerk at Dunscar Fold.  Edmond was the father of Benjamin, living nearby in 1841 and his first son was Edmund, confirmed on baptism.

4 Dec 1799, Edmund Holt, Widower, married Ellen Eccles by licence and they had a son Edmond in 1801.  This is Another Edmund who was married to Ann.
1837 James Holt James (14) was at Sharples in 1851 with parents Edmund and Catherine. However, this cant be correct if Edmund had a son James that died in 1844. Maybe he is adopted after the loss of James, or an illegitimate son of Catherine.  He cannot be found in 1841. 1818 - 1819 Jane Holt 1 1 1815 Thomas Holt ~1765 Ellen Hamers 1801 Edmund Holt 1786 Sarah Holt 1784 Thomas Holt 1790 Nancy Holt ~1770 Ellen Eccles Edmund Holt This is a different Edmund of Turton to the one married to Ellen.

In Dec 1791, Edmund and Ann of G.B. had a daughter Rachel, so it must be another Edmund and Ann of Turton the had a son John, aslo in Dec 1791(amongst others).  There are two families (Ann Holden m.1790 and Ann Clegg)

18 Jul 1798, Ann wife of Edmund Holt of G.B. died.  Edmund remarried the following year.

4 Dec 1799, Edmund Holt, Widower, married Ellen Eccles by licence.  They had a son Edmond in 1801.
~1730 Alice Healey 1783 Peter Holt 8 Feb 1804, Peter Holy, a weaver married Rachael Hayes at St Peter's, Bolton. 1780 - 1842 Ellen Holt 62 62 5 Nov 1800, Ellen Holt married Edmund Latham at St Peter's, Bolton 1776 William Holt 1773 Ellen Holt 1789 - 1790 Titus Holt 1 1 There is no UK marriage, death or census record for Titus Holt (After 1837).

May be related to the Titus Holt born at Culcheth in 1854 (MMN = MATHER)
1768 Fanny Holt 24 Apr 1787 Fanny Holt m arried John Lomax at Bury, St Mary, Lancashire, England 1759 James Holt 1762 Ann Holt 1765 Alice Holt ~1725 John Holt Baptisms for James, Alice, Ann, Fanny, Ellen and William show John and Alice are from Bradshaw, and Ellen's recod also shows John is a Butcher. Alice Haslam 1778 Betty Holt There are several Betty Holts, so this is unconfirmed:

4 Sep 1803, Betty Holt Married John Walch, a weaver at St Peter's, Bolton
1798 - 1865 Jane Marsh 67 67 15 Jun 1823, Jane Marsh married William Holt at St Peter's Bolton.  (There was also a marriage between William Holt and Jane Lambert 12 Dec 1820 at Bury, probably another). 1813 - 1881 Hannah Holt 68 68 In 1841, Hannah (25) was with parents at Dunscar Bar.

Hannah never married.  She continued to live at Dunscar, and was filannly buried with her parents and siblings at Walmsley Christ Church.

In 1881, Hannah Holt (65, Boarder) was an unemployed Spooler living with another Holt family (possibly a cousin) at 90 Dunscar Rd:  Elizabeth (39) and her daughters Sarah Alice and Elizabeth Ann Holt (15 & 11)

HANNAH HOLT who departed this life December 10th 1881 aged 67 years
1824 James Holt 1825 - 1841 Jane Holt 16 16 In 1841, Jane (15) was a Pin Winder, living with parents at Dunscar Bar, Turton. 1828 - 1880 Thomas Holt 52 52 In 1841, Thomas (13) was a Rover, living with parents at Dunscar Bar, Turton.

23 Feb 1852, Thomas Holt, Crofter son of William a Dyer married Hannah Exton, daughter of Thomas Exton a Porter.
