Arthur was born in June 1912 in Bolton.1  Arthur's father was William Glazebrook and his mother was Elizabeth Ann Horrocks.  His paternal grandparents were William Glazebrook and Mary Ellen Heaton; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Horrocks and Jane Dewhurst. He had a brother and five sisters, named William, Doris, Edith, Mary, Edna and Annie.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
