James was born in 1759 in Bradshaw and his baptism took place on November 25th, 1759 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  James' father was John Holt and his mother was Alice Healey. He had a brother and four sisters, named William, Ann, Alice, Fanny and Ellen.  He was the oldest of the six children.
