Ellen was born in December 1773 in Bradshaw and her baptism took place on December 25th, 1773 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Ellen's father was John Holt and her mother was Alice Healey. She had two brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Ann, Alice and Fanny.  She was the fifth oldest of the six children.
