Sarah was born in September 1853 in Turton and her baptism took place on September 7th, 1853 at Christ Church, Walmsley.1 2  Sarah's father was James Carr Holt and her mother was Alice Rothwell.  Her paternal grandparents were <male> Carr and Ann Holt. She had two brothers and a sister, named James, John and Mary.  She was the youngest of the four children.
