  6 Aug 1838, James Carr Holt, a crofter, married Alice Rothwell. He is shown to be illegitimate.
  
  In 1841, James and Alice (30 & 20) were at Dunscar Lane with his mother Ann (50, a baker) and aunt Alice (45).
  
  In 1851, James and wife Alice (44 & 33) were living with his mother Ann (66, house servant) and Aunt Alice (60) at Dunscar Lane, Turton.  He also had his first two children.
  
  James marred Alice (from Blackburn) and in 1861 had Samuel (18), Mary Ann (14) and Sarah (7)
