John Holt

John was born in 1801 in Turton and his baptism took place on July 12th, 1801 at Turton Chapel.¹²

John's father was George Holt and his mother was Betty Bentley. He had five brothers and five sisters, named William, George, James, Jacob, Charles, Ellen, Peggy, Betty, Mary and Alice. He was the seventh oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 46 in November 1847 in Turton. His burial was on December 1st, 1847 at St. Anne (Turton).³

- In 1841, John and Sarah (40 & 35) were living at Dimple, Turton, neighbours of William Probert, the famous Methodist Minister. With them were Ellen (15), John (4), Mary (3) and Esther (1).
  
  In 1851, John and Sarah (51 & 48) were living at 107 Blackburn Street, Little Bolton with Ellen (24), John (14), Mary (12) and Esther (11). Also son-in-law Robert Simon (20) who had just married Ellen.
  
  In 1861, John and Sarah (61 & 58) were with their daughter Esther (21), Grandson James (2) and Sarah Whitehead (10mo)
  
  WARNING: In 1851, there is another John and Sarah Holt (53 & 48), farmers of 22 acres at Holt Folt, Turton. Both alive in 1861 (65 & 59). This John died 1869 aged 72.
