Esther was born in March 1841 in Turton.1  Esther's father was John Holt and her mother was Sarah Halliwell.  Her paternal grandparents were George Holt and Betty Bentley. She had a brother and two sisters, named John, Ellen and Mary.  She was the youngest of the four known children.

‌Esther and Thomas were married in a religious ceremony on March 25th, 1860 at St. Mary (Deane) witnessed by Daniel and Mary Bromilow (i.e. Bromiley).2   The family line is yet to be completed.
