Charles was born in 1806 in Turton and his baptism took place on July 27th, 1806 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Charles' father was George Holt and his mother was Betty Bentley. He had five brothers and five sisters, named William, George, James, John, Jacob, Ellen, Peggy, Betty, Mary and Alice.  He was the second youngest of the eleven children.
