Mary was born on March 12th, 1706 in Tonge-with-Haulgh and her baptism took place on March 13th, 1706 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Mary's father was Abraham Mather and her mother was Ales (Alice) Rothwell. She had three brothers and a sister, named James, Richard, John and Elizabeth.  Elizabeth and Mary were twins.
