Richard was born on April 15th, 1711 in Little Bolton and his baptism took place on April 15th, 1711 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Richard's father was Abraham Mather and his mother was Ales (Alice) Rothwell. He had two brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Elizabeth and Mary.  James and Richard were twins.
