William's father was Ralph Holt and his mother was Mary Taylor. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Ralph, John, James, Thomas, Jane, Betty and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the eight known children.  He died at the age of 81 in August 1816 in Turton.  He was buried on August 7th, 1816 at St. Anne (Turton).³
