Betty was born in May 1778 in Bolton and her baptism took place on May 27th, 1778 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Betty's father was John Holt and her mother was Alice Haslam.  Her paternal grandparents were Peter Holt and Elizabeth (Betty) Howarth. She had two brothers and a sister, named Peter, Titus and Ellen.  She was the oldest of the four children.
