George was born in 1795 in Bolton and his baptism took place on January 30th, 1795 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  George's father was Thomas Holt and his mother was Ann Isherwood.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Holt and Ann Meadowcroft. He had two brothers and five sisters, named James, John, Alice, Ann, Esther, Mary and Jane.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
