Edward was born in 1834 in Little Bolton and his baptism took place on November 23rd, 1834 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Edward's father was James Holt and his mother was Betty Greenhalgh. He had a brother and two sisters, named Holt, Ellen and Betty.  He was the second youngest of the four known children.
