Jane was born in 1823 in Turton and her baptism took place on December 7th, 1823 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Jane's father was Benjamin Holt and her mother was Jane Kay.  Her paternal grandparents were Edmund Holt and Ellen Hamers. She had two brothers and a sister, named Edmund, Thomas and Jane.  She was the youngest of the four children.
