Ann was born in 1849. Ann's father was James Taylor and her mother was Esther Dewhurst. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Dewhurst and Esther Holt. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Fanny and Mary. She was the second oldest of the five children.
