Margaret's father was Peter Holt and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Howarth.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Holt and Ellen; her maternal grandparents were Adam Howarth and <unknown>. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Adam, John, Ellen, Betty and Ellen.  She was the second oldest of the six children. She had two half-sisters named Ann and Mary.
