Margaret was born in 1751 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on March 22nd, 1751 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Margaret's father was John Mather and her mother was Jane Holt.  Her paternal grandparents were Abraham Mather and Ales (Alice) Rothwell. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, James, Thomas, Ann and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 88 in December 1839 in Bolton.  She was buried on December 25th, 1839 at St. Peter's (Bolton).3

‌Margaret and James were married in a religious ceremony on February 9th, 1779 at St. Peter's (Bolton).4
