Born at Dukinfield, just South of Stalybridge, Lancashire (Cheshire on 1851 census). 

April 1851, Samuel was 1 month old with his parents George (a Stone Mason) and Rebecca at 30 Back Grosvenor Street, Dukinfield.  Brother Albert was born 2 years later at Hartshead, a few miles North of Stalybridge.

In 1861, Samuel had moved further North to live at 128 Pousy (?) Street, Haslingden, Accrington.

In 1871, "Saml Edwd Stocks" was living with Sarah Ann Miller and her family in Witton, Cheshire.

About 1875, the family moved from Northwich to Tranmere (indicated by the childrens places of Birth).

In 1881, living at 14 Brougham St., Tranmere, Birkenhead. 

In 1891, Samuel and Sarah A Stocks (40 & 41) are living at 194 Peel Street, Tranmere, Birkenhead with their 8 children.

Still there in 1901, but away from Sarah Ann, living with Sarah, Samuel and Susannah.  He was buried with his brother in 1916, so may have separated.

By 1911, all Samuels children had married (except John who had also left home), so Samuel was lodging with the Ridley family in Chester.  Timothy Ridley (Head, aged 53)was a houise Joiner and his son John Henry a draughtsman, so possibly Samuel was working as part of their family business.

In 1904 and 1908, "Samuel Edward Stocks" and Sarah Ann Stocks had their daughters Emily, Sarah Ann and Susannah baptised at St Paul's and St Catherins, Tranmere.

In 1911 (and I asume also in 1916) William Martin Harnman, wife Emily and children Emily (18), Lily (17), William Arthur (15) and George Henry (14) wre living at 33 Sidney St., Lower Tranmere.  Probably as the daughters married and left home, they had space for a lodger and Samuel moved in as his final address before he died (a boarder at Hoole with the Ridley family). 1876 - 1957 Phoebe Stocks 81 81 Born: Tranmere, Birkenhead, Cheshire

In 1911, Samuel Henry Owen (37, Marine Engineer) 53 Leighton Rd, Highter Tranmere, Birkenhead, just a few yards away from 45 Thompson Street.

In 1921, Samuel Henry (b.1906) and wife Annie Elizabeth Owen (b.1871), were living in Birkenhead with Samuel David Owen (son, b.1806), "Saliesne" (i.e. Talieson) Owen (b.1897) and his wife Isobel Owen (b.1898). 1898 - 1984 Taliesin Owen 86 86 Taliesin, names agter his grandfather, was born at Birkenhead.  Living there in 1901 (aged 2).

In 1912, Taliesin was in the RAF.

In Q1 1921, Taliesin Owen married Isabel Holmes at Tranmere, St Catherine, Birkenhead, Wirral.

In 1910, Emily married Robert Frerderick Edwards at Tranmere Birkenhead.  They were married 8 years before Robert died in 1918.  Theu had no chldren.

In 1921, after her husband died, Emily Edwards was living with Oscar and Susannah Whitehouse.

Emily didnt remarry.  She died in Birkenhead in 1970, aged 87 (confirmed by DOB).

Samuel Edward Stocks (Official Number: 227798), born 28 Nov 1887 at Rock Ferry first served in the RN on the Black Prince in 1903 when he was almost 16.  He left the Navy service on 9 Jan 1908 after serving on Vivid I.

In 1911, he was in the Wirral Union Workhouse (now Clatterbridge hospital) and single at Spital, Bebington, aged only 23, formerly a sailor.

There was a Samuel Edward Stocks who had three children christened in Tranmere in 1904, 1908 and 1908 (mother Sarah Ann Stocks), and the children's names were those of his nearest siblings.  Perhaps he was married. 1893 - 1971 John Miller Stocks 77 77 Born: Rock Ferry, Tranmere

in 1911, John Miller Stocks, age 17, was a boarder Joseph and Emily Davies at Birkenhead (his aunt and uncle).  Their sons Joseph Arnold (age 10) and Jack Miller (age 6) were also present.

John was a plater and was in the Navy during WW1, from 22 March 1912 for 12 years. He served on the Victory II several times, and also the Renown, Egmont, Venus and other ships.

In 1921, John Miller Stocks b.1893 was with Margaret and daughter Gladys in Rock Ferry, Birkenhead.

In 1939, John M Stocks and Margaret were living at 55 Cobden Street, Birkenhead (near the shipyards in Lower Tranmere). Joseph's death was registered at Tranmere in 1917, aged 47.  The death 1st Feb 1917 at Fleetwood may be another (with wife Sarah) but there is no othe (Fleetwood) death registered..

Reginald had a brother John Naylor Bissell (b.1879) 1883 - 1961 John James Pugh 78 78 In 1909 John and Sarah Ann had a son vicrot Puigh that died an infant.  The 1911 census shows one child alive and one dead.

In 1939, John and Sarah A are at 8 Munster Street, Birkenhead. They have a schoolgirl Joyce Harrison (born 3 Oct 1932) with them. I understood (from an Ancestry family tree) that George had two sons, John and George to a wife Margaret. In 1921, Samuel David Owen (b.1806) was living in Birkenhead with his father Samuel Henry (b.1906), mother Annie Elizabeth Owen (b.1871), Isobel Owen (b.1898), and "Saliesne" (i.e. Talieson) Owen (b.1897).

In 1930, Samuel David Owen married Elsie Jones at the Rock Ferry, Highfield United Reformed Church 1890 - 1922 Oscar Whitehouse 31 31 Oscar was 20 in 1911.  Place of birth was recorded as Cheshire, but only the birth record is for Hull.  As Oscar was in a School in Little Crosby, Lancashire in 1901, this seems to be the likely person.

Oscar's parents were Benjamin and Elizabeth.  He was with them in Kingston upon Hull in 1891, aged 7 months.  His father, a master mariner and pilot, aged 50 in 1891, was 21 years older that his mother who was only 29.

In 1911, soon after they were married, Oscar and Susannah Whitehouse (both 20) lived (as a visitor) with Reginald and Gertrude Bissell and family at 10 Methven Street, Birkenhead.

In 1921, Oscar and Susannah were at Birkenhead with Ida and Emily Edwards (i.e. Susannah's sister).

In 1922, Oscar died young, aged only 31 years.  His widow Susannah remarried two years later. 1844 - 1922 Taliesin Owen 78 78 Taliesin's father was Samuel Owen, a Tailor, and mother MORGAN.

There are many OWEN+JONES families in Birkenhead, as too many births records too close together. There are 5 OWENS+JONES and 7 OWEN+JONES marriages on the Wirral between 1845 and 1875.

In 1881, Talieson (36, Ship plater, b. Middlesex) was married to Mary J (29, b. Ireland).  They had William C (8), Samuel (7), Taliesin (4), Amy (3), Harold (1) and "Baby" (1mo). They lived at the Newspaper Shop, 55 St Paul's Road, Clifton, Birkenhead and had a domestic servant. 1852 Mary Jane Jones Mary's father was William Jones, an Engineer 1878 - 1966 Amy Owen 87 87 Birth registered as OWENS in error

In Q3 1950, Taliesin H Owen married Elizabeth J Watson at Birkenhead. 1924 Ivy Pugh In 1964, Ivy married Thomas Gilmer.

Did Ivy & Thomas have children ?

Tom died in 1985, and a couple of years later, Ivy re-married James Russell.

About 2004-2010 Ivy Russell (born about 1925) was living alone at 3 Home Farm Close, Woodchurch CH49 5LD 1917 - 1998 Ida May Whitehouse 80 80 In 1921, Ida (b.1917) was with her parents and aunt Emily in Birkenhead.

In 1939, Ida May, born 15 July 1917 was a shop assistant (Boots and Shoes), living at 342 Old Chester Road, Birkenhead with George and Sarah Wood and family.

In Q3 1942  Ida married George Harding 1895 - 1987 Margaret Corcoran 92 92 Margaret was the daughter of Michael and Rosanna Corcoran (both parents from Dublin, Ireland).  Her parents came first to Liverpool and moved to New Ferry in 1882.

In 1939, after her mother had died, Margaret's father Michael Corcoran lived with them at 55 Cobden Street. Annie Stocks(?) There is a John M Stocks who married Elizabeth Hayes in Liverpool S in 1950.  They had Ann E (1951), Stephen P (1955) and Mark J (1965) at Manchester. There isnt a John M Stocks birth in the North of England except this John E, so it is lakely this is the same person - TBC.

In 1902, the family moved to Liverpool where Dorothy and Charles Lee were born before moving to Liscard.
