Emma (Jane) Stocks

Emma, known as Jane, was born in September 1850 in Huddersfield.¹

  Only Emma Stocks registered at Huddersfield: However, is daughter of Benjamin STOCKS and Rachel FARRAND is another family also had Emma on their 1851 census. They also had Sam in 1849, Mary Hannah Stocks in 1856 and Maria in 1858.

She had two brothers and a sister, named John, George and Mary. She was adopted by Jonadab Brook & Ruth Stocks. She was also adopted by Job Stocks & Lucy Crosland. She died at the age of 71 in October 1921 in Berry Brow. Her burial was on October 26th, 1921 at St. Paul's (Armitage Bridge).²

General Notes
- Emma, Grandaughter, aged 1 on 1851 census with Job and Lucy at Park Gate. She is listed under Ruth, so is probably Ruth's illegitimate daughter.
  
  The 1850 GRO birth registration suggests Emma is the daughter of Benjamin Stocks and Rachel Farrand (married 1847). However, that Emma was 9mo and with her parents at Honley in 1851.
  
  In 1861, Emma is 12 and with grandparents Job and Lucy at Back of the Hill, Almondbury.
  
  25 June 1870, Emma Stocks married Ben Schofield, both of Berry Brow at the Huddersfield Methodist New Connection. Both their parents are not recorded !
  
  In 1871, Emma and Benjamin Schofield were at 235 Berry Brow with 1 week old Annie Schofield. Benjamin was a Joiner and Cabinet Maker.
  
  In 1881 Emma was recorded as "Jane"
  
  In 1921, Emma Stocks of Berry Brow, died aged 72.
