Thomas was born in 1847 in Berry Brow.1  Thomas' father was Charles Stocks and his mother was Hannah (Ann) Boothroyd.  His paternal grandparents were George Stocks and Martha Stocks. He had three brothers and two sisters, named George, Henry, William, Martha and Ellen.  He was the third youngest of the six children.

‌Thomas and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony on March 17th, 1867 in Wallasey.2   They had two sons and a daughter, named Harry, John and Martha.
