WOLSEY
Made Chaplin to King Henry VII. With the assession of Henry VIII in1509 to the throne Wolsey began his rise to wealth and power. Wasmade Lord Chancellor of England in 1515. He impsosed heavy taxes topay for wars. Was made Legate for life in 1524. His fall from powercame largely from not securing a prompt annulment for Henry VIII fromCathrine of Arag'o so the King could marry Anne Boleyn. Wolsey was tried and conviced by his old enemies on an old law ofholding foreign court in England. This was in the case of Cathrine.Queen Cathrine's Nephew, Charles V, of Rome. Wolsey was retried andfound guilty of treason and ordered to London. He fell ill and diedin route. He was divested of all his honors and posts with theexception of archbishopic.

From: " The History of My Life" by Donna Sorensen. Mom wrote at theage of 8 years: I started to school in the year 1935, Where Grant, Salt LakeCity, Utah My Favorite Teachers are Miss Blackburn, Miss Sorensen, MissFouts, Miss Empty, Miss Birkhouse, Miss Roller, Miss ??aw. My Life Story My name is Donna Rae Sorensen. I was born November 18, 1929 atthe L.D.S. Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah by Dr. LeGrand Woolley. My Father's name is Laron Hans Sorensen. Who was born September19, 1890 in Fairview, Utah. He is the son of Hans Sorensen and HelenVilate Hansen. My Mother's name is Margarett Elizabeth Stewart, whowas born December 24, 1888 at Milburn, Utah. My parents were married April 18, 1911 at Manti, Utah and were endowedin the Salt Lake Temple May 6, 1926. I was blessed by Charles H. Sorensen on March 2, 1929 (sic)(actually 1930). I was baptized December 18, 1937 by Floyd Weed, Priest. I was confirmed January 2, 1938 by Fred J. Heath, Elder. The things that interest me most are base ball, horse backriding, and bicycle riding. The most important places where I have been are Yellowstone National Park,Wendover, Utah, Delle, Utah, Nevada and California. In 1939 I went toYellowstone. I liked it very much because of all the pretty scenery. The things that interested me were all the bears, old Faithful gyser, the paint pot's and all the pretty water falls, I went swimming inJenney Lake and Yellowstone Lake. There are some bears that ar called"highway bears". They are called this because they go out on to thehighway and stop the cars. Sometimes they climb right into the carsand make the people get out of their automobiles. Some bears comearound the camp at night and take bacon, ham and honey. Some peopleput their bacon in buckets and pull it up by ropes in trees, butsometimes the bears climb up the trees and get it anyway. In August1938 I went to California for a trip. We saw many beautiful thingsthere. Lake Tahoe and Donner Monument; Donner Lake and Donner Summit. We went through Nevada City and Virginia City; through the featherrivers canyon to Orville and saw how the oranges and palm trees grew.We also went through the sawmill and saw how lumber was made from bigtrees. We went to Gold Lake and went swimming. I am going to GrantSchool, and am in the third grade. The names of my teachersare---Miss Irvine, Miss Keites, Miss Blackburn, Miss Sorensen, MissStone, Miss Garland, Miss Empty, Miss Callahan, Miss Fouts. I like Primary, Sunday School and Genealogy. I am looking forward tobecoming a girl scout. Four years ago my mother was awfully sick. Thedoctor didn't know what was the matter with her. She wasn't gettingany better, so one night Bishop Perchon was called in to administer toher, and she immediately felt better and began to improve. I know itwas just through faith and prayers that my mother got well. Diseases I have had---mumps, measles, chicken pox, whooping cough,Infantile paralyses. Brother's Guy Lorenzo Sorensen, and Eugene Sorensen. Sisters are---Lois Euvetta Sorensen.

Henry I emigrated to America in 1643. He was but twenty years oldwhen he arrived in Virginia, just twenty four years after the firstrepresentative government was established in Jamestown. He settledprobably on the James river in what is now Henrico County. His homewas named "Timberlane". From 1643 to 1669 he was clerk of HenricoCounty and was clerk of "The House of Burgess" 1660 to 1672. Henry,in 1668, patented 800 acres on Swifts Creek in Henrico County. Hishome there was called Appomatock. In 1669 he visited England. Whenhe returned to America and Henrico County his young nephew, William(later of Turkey Island) came with him. A mill that Henry I iscredited with building on Swifts Creek is still standing in ColonialHeights, VA.(1994) and now houses a dinner theater. Henry Randolph I married 12 Oct 1652, Elizabeth ------- They had twochildren; Henry b. 1664 (died in infancy) and William b. 1658 d. 1677.Elizabeth died 12 Oct 1660. Henry I married Judith Soane 12 Dec.1661. They had three children; HENRY II b. 1665, Judith b. 1671 andMartha (died young). After Henry's death Judith married Major PeterField in 1678. Their daughter Martha (Mary) married Thomas JeffersonII, grandfather of Thomas Jefferson. In 1651 Henry Soane, the father of Judith (Henry's second wife)obtained a patent for 297 acres on Hogg's Island. He was a member ofthe House of Burgess. Also in 1651 he sponsored the arrival of hiswife Judith and his daughter Judith. 1644 there was an Indian uprising in the Virginia Colonies in which500 men, women and children were killed. The war ended with thecapture and death of the Indian leader Opechancanough. 1660-1685 Charles II (1630-1685) was King of England, Scotland andIreland.

The will of Sarah Eppes - wife of Francis Eppes IV-mention that she(Sarah Eppes) specifically said that of her two (2) sons - RichardEppes and William Eppes- to name their first born son FRANCIS was toreceive something out of her estate. The writer of this assumes that Sarah Eppes wanted to continue thename "FRANCIS EPPES" since their first son Francis Eppes V -- diedwithout issue. The writer of this assumes therefore that either Richard (her secondoldest son?) or William named their first son Francis Eppes. But theyapparently did not name him Francis Eppes VI. The writer of this thinks, therefore, that LT. COL. FRANCIS EPPES ofRevolutionary War fame was grandson of Francis Eppes IV.The will ofSarah Eppes - wife of Francis Eppes IV-mention that she (Sarah Eppes)specifically said that of her two (2) sons - Richard Eppes and WilliamEppes- to name their first born son FRANCIS was to receive somethingout of her estate.

Ship Brittannia, chartered by Lancaster Quaker Meeting out ofLiverpool, was at sea for 14 weeks. A shortage of water and beer andillness caused 56 deaths out of 140. Twenty more died ashore ofyellow fever. The ship arrived 8/26/1699. From Super Bundle IV CD 18: George came over to America in 1699 with William Penn on his secondvisit to Pennsylvania. He stayed for a week with his sister Mary Myers, at Harbills, Marylandthen went on to Philidelphia where he lived for a while with his firstcousin, James Haworth. He then went to Bucks County PA where hepurchased 450 acres and lived there the rest of his life. Three of his sons Absalom, Stephanus, and James moved to FrederickCounty, VA where they married and raised their families. Stephanus went to North Carolina where most of his decendentsremained. Of the four children of Absalom, one son Nathaniel stayedin Virginia, the other three moved to Tennessee where each raised alarge family and almost all of them remained in that state. Jamesfamily moved to North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio and on throughout themidwest. George and Mary, the other children of George remained inPennsylvania and I have found no record of them. Of the six children of James, Son of George, 2 married Wrightbrothers, three married Dillons, who were the children of WilliamDillon from Ireland. The sixth son married Mary Reece (Rees) ofScotch descent. The name has gone through many changes in the U.S. Many of theHaworths in North Carolina have adopted the name "Howard", while inIllinois, Iowa and Missouri it has been changed to Howorth. Anotherform of the name is Hayworth. The family played an important part in the settlement of Ohio,Illinois, and other parts of the Mid-West.

POWERS
Thomas Powers seems to have located on the north and westerly borderof the town adjoining Harvard. He was the ancestor of the largefamily of the name in Grenwich, Ensfield, Pittsford, VT and of perhapsthe most noted of the descendents of Walter, viz: Hirum Powers, thesculptor. He removed from Littleton, first to Wellington, from thereto Hardwick, to Quobbin, to Greenwich in all of which places he seemsto have owned land and to have been a man of note.

Reigned 1154-1189. Ruled an empire that stretched from Tweed toPyrenees. In spite of frequent hostilities with the French King, hisown family and rebellious Barons (culminating in the great revolt of1173-1174) and his quarrel with Thomas Becket, Henry maintainedcontrol over his possessions until shortly before his death. Hisjudicial and administrative reforms which increased royal control andinfluence at the expense of the Barons were of great constitutionalimportance. He introduced trial by jury. He was also Duke ofNormandy.
