Made Chaplin to King Henry VII.  With the assession of Henry VIII in1509 to the throne Wolsey began his rise to wealth and power.  Wasmade Lord Chancellor of England in 1515.  He impsosed heavy taxes topay for wars.  Was made Legate for life in 1524.  His fall from powercame largely from not securing a prompt annulment for Henry VIII fromCathrine of Arag'o so the King could marry Anne Boleyn.

Wolsey was tried and conviced by his old enemies on an old law ofholding foreign court in England.  This was in the case of Cathrine.Queen Cathrine's Nephew, Charles V, of Rome.  Wolsey was retried andfound guilty of treason and ordered to London.  He fell ill and diedin route.  He was divested of all his honors and posts with theexception of archbishopic.
